Are you sure your not gay dude? I dont know. Backstreet Boys are pretty hot.
Just kidding of course. Enjoy
after reading something like this, I warp into another dimension. Are all the megachurches really the Christlike truth-revealing saints of the world? Is my silent distrust of BACKSTREET BOYS SINGING IN CHURCH a symptom of my baby-faith or is there something wrong with this??????? eh who cares.
I tell you one thing, no Backstreet Boy has ever or will ever lead the music during Mass at MY Parish. They wouldn't know how to use an organ properly...
All I want to know here is why the folks at Saddleback decided it was a good idea to pair preaching the Gospel with marketing someone else's CD Release.
Seriously, this crosses a big line. Jesus tossed the moneychangers out of the temple and I think this is a moneychanger-like situation. It's not that the Church is marketing itself so much, but at the same time is helping push someone else's commodities IN Church! Not like Brian is saying that a percentage of the proceeds from album sales are going to Christian Children's Fund or something, not like it would make too much of a difference if he was still making a profit.
This honestly makes me glad that many priests take vows of poverty along with chastity, so these situations don't interfere with the Gospel
I'd go with you.
...that is, if i were in the area. but yeah. i've been strangely missing the backstreet boys. and seeing one of them in a church is somehow refreshing.
David thanks for making me throw up.
Excuse me while I channel John McEnroe for a second...
You canNOT be SERIOUS!
Yeah, if I lived in the area, I'd go...provided you paid me a nice hefty sum and got me liquored up first. ;)
So, how was it? Was it as good as the Hoff video? Should we look out for your signed copy of his latest CD on eBay?
well, there really should be no shock or surprise here folks. We all knew that corporate sponsership was just around the corner.
(this message brought to you by "Chee-sese", it's Shit covered in real California processed cheese. Isn't is time that you had some Chee-sese? The number one snack for today's hip church-goer! Please worhip responsibly)
Stay tuned....My full report coming soon on my visit.
Pammu: tried to email you back and it said the email address was bad. Send me one where I can reach you.
Shelly: That's funny... a John McEnroe reference?? AWESOME! I got the liquor but no cash... so one out of two ain't bad!
JandJ: All I want to know here is why the folks at Saddleback decided it was a good idea to pair preaching the Gospel with marketing someone else's CD Release. Uhhh... all evangelical churches do this or are you under a rock. Hence, Stupid Church People.... it's why we are here.
BUT.... This honestly makes me glad that many priests take vows of poverty along with chastity, so these situations don't interfere with the Gospel Yeah priests are sooo perfect. Poverty... my good friend's a priest, lives in a nice house here in Orange County, drives a brand new SUV, has a $1,000 mountain bike, takes several weeks vacations throughout the year to remote places all over the world (I think they call it sabbatical - paid for by the church).... cmon... quit blowing smoke up the catholic church priests and there churches arse... they are just as stupid, if not more stupid than all the rest. Oh and don't get me started on priests and their vows of chastity.... bullshite!
preach on brother, PREACH ON!!!
who needs a pulpit, right?
Jesus had his mountain, you've got your blog. It's all just semantics.
-the nondenominational church that isn't even a church (building anyway)
The problem with the church is not new and it’s not just about inviting a vocalist to peddle his goods on Solomon’s porch. This is about self worship. It’s about people everywhere making church exactly how they want it to be. Anytime someone says, “I like this” or “why can’t church music be like the music we all listen to everyday”, it just comes down to selfishness and wanting to be entertained. People are not interested in serving God, they are interested in “being fed”. It’s a new and fancy way to say, “gimme, gimme, gimme! For a Church that wants the resurrection with the cross.”
I don't see what the big deal is, Robert Schuller of Crystal Cathedral ministries has been bringing people on his show for years who are hocking a CD or a book or some other product at the same time they happen to be visiting his church.
So a Backstreet Boy is singing in 6 church services? OMG what do we do? I mean if you're gonna freak out over a mainstream singer singing in church you should at least be freaking out over somebody that's considered to be "evil". Let's see, maybe Alice Cooper or Dave Mustaine, both born-again Christians you know... maybe Ozzy Osbourne or Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Geoff Tate of Queensryche? Or my personal favorite Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, that whole Number of the Beast CD thing has never really been lived down.
Hey maybe while Brian is in church he can get saved-uh. Wouldn't that be just the bestest thing ever? Ugh.
Is anyone grasping the funniest part of this email sent by Rick...
It's the subject: Tell your teenagers!
The "boys" were "hot" back around '99 so these teenagers he's talking about are in their mid-twenties now. Yeah... that's so relevant to today's "teenagers".
Talk about the cult of celebrity.

Ah crap! I missed the point of another post. If you need me I'll be flogging myself in the back room! LOL
steve: the Backstreet Boys are still big in Japan, imo.
Y'know, I didn't notice the subject line, actually. (Heh. When BSB were big, I was about a year or so out of high school.)
Still, though...
