Etcetera

Josh and I had the privilege of appearing as guests on the Etcetera live internet streaming show today. We got to hang out with Erik, Sharon and a few other people for the whole hour and talk about "The Church". It was very cool and we enjoyed ourselves. The interview and discussion on the show today presents a broader view of SCP.

Etcetera is our tamer alter ego and we are proud to hook up with them. They have a fresh perspective on the "christian podcast" world. You can download our interview here and visit their site to listen to all the other shows they have to offer...we think you'll enjoy it.

I tried the web site that one of the callers mentioned at the end of the 20th show but he must have spelled it wrong.
He said it was vanyaguirres.com but it doesn't work.
Does any one know the right URL for this podcast?

Well, I'm in the beer-loving crowd, and truth be told I would prefer that swearing never come out of my mouth (though it often does).

But I think I understand a little where this comes from. The rigidly reinforced phoniness that is so common to Churchianity "How you doing, brother?--Blessed, brother!--Amen, brother! God is good!--All the time, brother!" glosses over the fact that we remain very human inside, rarely behave like we do on Sunday mornings, but only occasionally admit it.

This comment is too long, so now I have to go make a post out of it.

jeff and beneathrover,

I in no way meant my blog entry as some kind of slam. I’m sorry if it came across that way. I tend to be insecure and uptight (and at the same time I suffer from emotional turrets). I just blab on about my crap and it looks like my big mouth got me in trouble again.

This is all one big misunderstanding. So much for first impressions.

Again, I'm sorry. My post really was about me feeling like shit for coming across like an ass. And then of course I went on to stick it further into the mashed potatoes.

Zeke, no need to judge...

Who's judging?

We seem to all be misunderstanding each other. Limitations of the medium, I suppose...

I was judging. But now I'm not. I'll probably judge again later. But for now I'm cool.

I was judging responses to my posts based on my insecurity and without context.

Anyway, I’m sick of talking about this. I'm gonna go do something else.

So my Rover, my Rover....

How do you explain Jesus' first miracle of keeping the party going at the wedding by providing that wine...the best wine to keep all of the guests happy and partying for days on end...???

Is wine demonic? Is Jesus for providing that "sinful" alcoholic beverage?

And I do agree that much of this life is nothingness...and most of the church is caught up in this nothingness and is full of as much dung as are bands like U2 and ColdPlay, politicians like George Bush and John Kerry, Mormons and Southern Baptists....and SCP (including myself and you) for that matter. We are just honest enough (as are you) to talk about it. I can truly appreciate that.

And I certainly am not a person with an EDGE...as a matter of fact...I am quite DULL by most accounts....

And I don't RULE...and that's the TRUTH.

The point is that it is ALL nothingness....

Our music, our hobbies, our language, our religious practices, our religious piety, our politics...none of it TRULY matters ultimately.

There is only one REALITY that matters...only one TRUTH...only one person that RULES...(and it ain't Rover).

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:15-17

Steve just quoted scripture. Wow.

As for not others by what they eat and drink, I admit I look down on people that drink domestic common-label beer. Yeah, I'm a beer snob. Pray for me.

I thought this might come as a shock... please do not expect this as a regular practice. But occasionally I just might surprise you. :)

Indeed. Just as Ecclesiastes points to the meaningless of joy and sorrow, labor and leisure, poverty and riches, it is also quick to note that it is God who gives meaning. On a practical level, it is the cross that provides the context for our activities and interests. In that light, those things become glorious.

Pass the syrup, Jeff.

My first speack!

I really disagree with you're way of seeing God.God gave the law in it is the way you should live you're life. ,And gave humans ability to distinguish the difference's between good and evil .The fact that he gave you the this ability it those mean that you need to live you're life by God's word and to purse the model and example of Jesus Christ ,if u get drunk and go with 100 miles and have a accident and die thats you're fault. Not God's.
And again the idea that God doesn't exist and we evolve from animals and were on of natures anomalies its the biggest lie of all .This is what makes men kind fell miserable and have no parpes in life ,unlike the idea that God created men and this kingis the human and make it fell like the most important part of creation not a natures mistake like you teach .And if you're an evolve animal you just might act like one ,way should i even respect the lows,:don't steel ,don't kill ,way? if every thing is here and now i just might do every thing bad on this world and not care if i kill or run over a million people ,way should i care ,if nobody will question me about what i did ween i die.
And another thing is that Christians are not stupid like u say there are one of the most smartest men educated, spiritual there are the smartest men in the world .
